Never thought we’d be here ..

BUT we are extremely glad to be here to utilize website/forum and all the other resources. Our 3 1/2 year old Australian Cattledog recently had surgey to remove a rear leg (as a result of truck incident 3 years ago)… stitches (and cone !)  come off this Friday !  We (and doctors) tried to save leg for 3 years .. but .. we were not successful and decided not to prolong what we knew was going to happen … surgery. Unfortunately we did not discover website until a few days  before surgery.. so we did not get alot of time to research what we were getting into .. but .. we learned many things in that short time .. and we are thankful for the support.. One thought stuck in my mind… when we picked up Riley from surgery … I remembered a quote … ‘look at your dog in the eyes and not the incision’ … we did .. and I think it helped ease our concerns and Riley’s ! So .. we will now move on to find a Rehab therapist.. in an attempt to give Riley her best chance of leading a ‘better’ life .. she came through surgery well .. and still is a happy dog !   Thanks !

  2. So glad surgery went well and now you can move forward knowing Riley can be Riley again, but without all the hurdles of the past three years.
I love that you focused on Riley’s eyes and not the incision. I’ve always thought the way we “greet” our dogs after amputation helps to reassure them and build their confidence right from the get go.
You obviously are devoted to your sweet Riley and are completely focused on his well being. Nice, very nice♥️
Keep us posted and give that sweet boy a smooch for us.
    Hugs
